Here's a little about who we are.

David Welke, Partner

After over 20 years working as an Auditor for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), David wanted to be the “good guy” for a change and help clients. David is a former Certified General Accountant (CGA) who also taught accounting courses at Conestoga College while working full-time. He also spent a portion of his career in the private business sector with a Fortune 500 Company where much of his time was spent on mergers and acquisitions.

David has a passion for finance and tax planning. Small changes and strategies can save significant taxes that compound over time. After many years of travelling from boardroom to boardroom auditing for CRA it is much more satisfying to assist clients with keeping more of their dollars in their own pockets rather than Ottawa’s pocket.

When not working David enjoys spontaneous road trips, especially in a convertible. David is happiest with a view of the water either at the cottage or at a beach so you may hear waves in the background on calls with David.

Jennifer Merkley, Partner

Jennifer Merkley brings over 30 years of senior leadership experience across a diverse range of industries, including retail, services, manufacturing, software, healthcare, and not-for-profit organizations. She is known for her ability to implement new software systems, streamline processes, and improve operational efficiency.

After spending many years in executive roles, Jennifer chose to focus her expertise on supporting smaller organizations, where her knowledge can have the greatest impact. Outside the office, she enjoys reading, travelling, and lounging in the sun.

Madison Merkley, Staff Accountant

Madison is the newest member of our team, joining us in September 2025, bringing with her three years of hands-on experience in payroll and Human Resources. Her strong attention to detail and solid understanding of compliance make her a valuable addition to our team.

In her role, Madison supports clients with accurate bookkeeping and the preparation of personal tax returns, helping ensure records are organized and up to date. She enjoys working behind the scenes to keep financial information clear, reliable, and compliant.

Outside of the office, Madison is an avid reader and loves spending time with her miniature dachshund, Bennie. She’s also looking forward to checking a big adventure off her bucket list – travelling to Machu Picchu in 2026!

Jessica Kaak, Senior Office Administrator

Jessica has been a part of the firm since 2020, where she has built strong client relationships and developed a reputation for fostering positive, collaborative interactions with both clients and colleagues. She manages daily office operations, providing support to managers, overseeing workflow, maintaining corporate records, and handling bookkeeping and payroll responsibilities.

Jessica enjoys helping clients and values the people-focused, collaborative nature of her work. Outside of the office, she loves spending time with her family and exploring the outdoors. Whether kayaking on the Green River, hiking, or gardening in her backyard, Jessica has also taken leadership courses and has a background in advanced physics, bringing a unique analytical perspective to the accounting world. She is always excited by new adventures and experiences that challenge her.

Curtis Hewitt, Staff Accountant

Curtis has been a valued member of the firm since 2009, bringing over a decade of experience and dedication to client service. From 2019 to 2021, he took a three-year sabbatical to operate a family business full-time, gaining hands-on entrepreneurial experience that further strengthened his practical understanding of financial operations.

Curtis holds a three-year Accounting Diploma from Georgian College and works with the firm from October through April. His responsibilities include bookkeeping, preparation of personal and corporate tax returns, T-slip preparation, estate returns, and direct client support. He is known for his clear communication and commitment to helping clients navigate their financial and tax matters with confidence.

During the summer months, Curtis operates a seasonal produce business in and around Barrie. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active by skiing with his kids, playing hockey, and competing in pickleball. Curtis takes pride in building strong client relationships and providing thoughtful, reliable service tailored to each client’s needs.
